Practical Information
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit is during the dry season (April-October) when wildlife concentrates around water sources and access is easier. The wet season (November-March) brings lush vegetation and breeding birds but can make some areas inaccessible. Avoid January-February when temperatures can be extremely hot and humid.
Getting There
The main gateways to Iberá are the towns of Colonia Carlos Pellegrini, Concepción del Yaguareté Corá, and Ituzaingó. Most visitors arrive via Mercedes or Posadas, which have bus connections to major cities. Charter flights to small local airstrips are available for higher-end lodges.
Getting Around
Within the wetlands, transportation is primarily by boat, on foot, or on horseback. To reach different sectors of the park, 4x4 vehicles are necessary, especially during the rainy season when dirt roads can become impassable.
Accommodation
Accommodations range from simple hospedajes (guesthouses) in local communities to upscale eco-lodges. Options include Posada Uguay, Puerto Valle Hotel de Esteros, Rincón del Socorro, and Aguapé Lodge, all offering different levels of comfort and access to different areas of the wetlands.
Language
Spanish is the primary language. In Corrientes province, many locals also speak Guaraní. English is spoken at higher-end lodges and by some guides, but less commonly than in more touristic parts of Argentina.

About Esteros del Iberá
Esteros del Iberá (meaning "shining waters" in the indigenous Guaraní language) is a vast wetland ecosystem covering approximately 13,000 square kilometers in the northeastern Argentine province of Corrientes. This natural wonder comprises a complex system of marshes, lagoons, floating islands, and gallery forests that support an extraordinary diversity of plant and animal life.
Once threatened by habitat loss and hunting, Iberá has become one of Latin America's most inspiring conservation success stories. Through the efforts of Conservation Land Trust (founded by the late Douglas Tompkins and his wife Kristine) and the Argentine government, the area has been transformed into a protected national park. The rewilding project has successfully reintroduced species that had disappeared from the region, including jaguars, giant anteaters, and pampas deer.
The wetlands are home to more than 350 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. Visitors can also easily spot capybaras (the world's largest rodent), marsh deer, caimans, howler monkeys, and maned wolves. The clear waters allow for excellent visibility of aquatic life, including piranhas and stingrays.
The local culture is a fascinating blend of Guaraní indigenous traditions and the distinctive gaucho (cowboy) culture of Corrientes province. Several small communities around the wetlands offer visitors insights into local crafts, music, and cuisine, adding a cultural dimension to the natural experience.
